BAIRO MARTÍNEZ PARRA

There is something very interesting in the new work of BAIRO MARTÍNEZ PARRA, on one side we find a happy and intelligent assimilation of the formal precepts of artists such as Peter Halley, Scully or Daniel Buren. This means that his perception of color is that of a signifying structure framed in the mental limits of geometry that does not totalize but opens itself to infinite options…
…taking into account the ever-changing city landscape, the geometries created seemingly at random that indivan an already accepted existent order, some visual codes with very concrete contents that are the result of very specific cultural gestures.
On the other side, as an inhabitant of an urban space marked by disrespect, the perpetual stain of the massacres and the infinite noise of bullets, Bairo searches behind those structures for the faces that nowadays are being sentenced to be erased. What we rhetorically call “to build meanings” is really this, to fight oblivion, to remember and above all to commemorate. Who do we commemorate? The memory of this young artist signals the key places of horror and turns them into places of commemoration for those who were taken by the violence of the acting powers.
He is not going to decline in this task, and to do it he counts with something essential, an intense academic preparation which is vital to create perspective and to be open to the formal reclaims that his own work formulates.
